An epoxy floor is a coating that bonds to concrete and gives a garage, shop or utility room a hard, sealed surface that wipes clean. La Cumbre coats garage floors in epoxy, including flake finishes, and also polishes bare concrete; see polished concrete. The photos on this page, from the Google listing, show concrete being prepared and a coating going down. For a price on your garage, Tony’s estimate is free.
The concrete comes first
A coating is only as good as the surface under it. Oil, old paint and loose material have to come off, cracks get filled, and the slab is cleaned down to a surface the coating can grip. A damp slab will lift a coating later, so moisture is checked before anything goes on.

Flake finishes
Color flakes are broadcast into the wet coat and sealed under a clear top coat. They hide dust and tire marks, add grip, and give the floor a speckled finish instead of one flat color.
What a coated floor asks for
- An empty garage. Everything comes out, and stays out while the coats cure.
- Dry concrete. New slabs need time to cure before they can be coated.
- Cure time before cars. Foot traffic comes back first and tires last. Ask Tony for the times on your job.
Questions
Can any garage floor be coated?
Most can, once the surface is prepared. Oil stains, old coatings and moisture in the slab are the usual problems, and each has a fix.
Is epoxy slippery?
A smooth clear coat can be when wet. Flake and anti-slip additives add grip, which is one reason flake finishes are common in garages.
Does La Cumbre coat shop and commercial floors too?
One photo on this page shows a commercial space being prepared. Call (805) 698-9745 with the size of the floor and what it is used for.
