Count from the day the last coat goes on. Furniture goes back on day 3 and rugs on day 30. That’s the timing we give every customer. Enter your date to see the month laid out, and add the two reminders to your phone’s calendar.
Your dates
- Day 0The last coat
Stay off the floor until we say it’s ready to walk on. Ask us when socks are fine.
- Day 3Furniture back
Felt pads under every leg. Lift furniture into place; don’t drag it.
- Day 30Rugs back down
The finish has cured. Rugs can go down now, without rubber backing.
- After thatEveryday care
Sweep or vacuum often, and clean with a pH-balanced wood floor cleaner on a barely damp mop. No steam mops, no vinegar.
The calendar file holds two all-day reminders, furniture back on day 3 and rugs down on day 30. It only goes on your phone’s calendar.
Why furniture and rugs wait
A finish dries in hours but takes weeks to cure to full hardness. Furniture waits three days so the legs don’t dent or mark the soft finish. Rugs wait longest because they cover the finish and slow the cure. The refinishing guide has cure times by product.
After the first month
- Keep indoor humidity between 30 and 50 percent. Gaps that open in dry weather usually close again.
- Rubber-backed rugs and hard plastic furniture feet can mark the finish. Use felt.
- When the floor loses its luster, a recoat usually costs less than a full refinish.
