The houses
Pierpont Bay was subdivided in 1925 and most of its first lots were built between 1926 and 1930: five-room beach cottages and Spanish Colonial Revival courtyard apartments. Storms in the early 1930s and 1935 destroyed beachfront property, and building resumed in the 1950s. That mix of 1920s cottages and postwar houses means old oak and fir to refinish and slabs to prepare for new floors.
Floors near the beach
Sand tracked in on shoes is grit, and grit is what wears a finish. A mat at the door, a lower sheen that hides scratches, and a recoat before the finish wears through keep a beach-cottage floor going. The care guide and the finishes page cover both.
Working in the city
- Hours. The City of Ventura allows construction from 7 am to 8 pm, seven days a week, with a residential noise limit of 55 decibels.
- Debris. Old flooring is construction waste with its own disposal rules. The local rules section lists them.

Is La Cumbre based in Ventura?
No. La Cumbre is based in Carpinteria and works across Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. In Ventura County that means Ventura, Ojai, Oxnard and Camarillo.
Do you work on weekends in Ventura?
The city allows construction seven days a week, 7 am to 8 pm. La Cumbre takes calls and texts Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 10 pm.
Can a floor near the beach be hardwood?
Yes. Many Pierpont cottages have had wood floors since the 1920s. Sand and salt air ask for a door mat, a lower sheen and a recoat on time.
