How we work

Working with La Cumbre, start to finish

Updated Oct 14, 2026 · La Cumbre Floor Covering & Design · CA Lic. #1125785

Wide boards laid out on sawhorses in a sunlit room beside glass doors
Boards laid out on the job before they go down.

You call or text, we answer. Within one to three days we’re at your door with moisture meters and samples. You get a free written estimate, the work takes about four to seven days for one to three rooms, and your furniture goes back three days after the last coat. Nothing about the price or the plan should surprise you, so here is every step. Call or text (805) 698-9745.

The steps

  1. You call or text. We pick up ourselves, Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 10 pm, in English or Spanish. If we’re on a floor when you call, we still answer. A photo of the floor by text helps us bring the right samples.
  2. We come look, usually within one to three days. We walk the rooms, check the edges, the damage and what’s under the boards, and test the wood and the subfloor with calibrated pin and pinless moisture meters. Before any installation we also run ASTM moisture tests. You’ll hear what we see as we see it.
  3. We show you the color on your own floor. The hardest part of any floor job, in our words: “the gap between a client’s vision and the final result.” So we put physical samples down early, on your wood, in your light, and you choose from those, not from a screen. See color matching.
  4. You get a free estimate in writing. Hold it to the same test as any quote: the work, the finish and the coats, what happens to the old floor, and what it assumes about the subfloor. Ask about any line. See what sets the price.
  5. You sign only when you’re ready. California requires a written contract for home improvement work over $500, and caps the down payment at $1,000 or 10 percent of the price, whichever is less. We take check, card, Zelle or cash. See the contract rules.
  6. We do the work. One to three rooms usually take four to seven days to refinish. The sanding is the loud part; the coats are the waiting part, because each one has to dry before the next.
  7. You move back in. Socks on the new finish once it’s dry, furniture back three days after the last coat, rugs after thirty days. The first-30-days planner turns those into dates and phone reminders.
  8. We stay your floor people. No job is too small afterward. The smallest we take is a single scratch touch-up.

What you’ll know before you say yes

  • Who we are: La Cumbre Floor Covering & Design, California contractor license #1125785, class C-15 flooring. Look it up yourself on the state board’s site.
  • That we carry general liability insurance and workers’ compensation.
  • What other homeowners said, word for word: 5.0 stars from 53 Google reviews, 5.0 on Yelp, and A+ with the BBB, accredited since September 2024. Read the reviews.
  • What the finished work looks like, in 51 photos from our own jobs. See the work.
  • What your floor needs and what it doesn’t, including whether a recoat would do instead of a full sanding.
  • The color, because you’ll have seen it on your own boards.
  • The number, the finish, the coats and the dates, in writing.
  • What to ask any flooring contractor, us included. The hiring guide lists the questions and the red flags.

Ask us what warranty comes with your job, and get the answer in writing with the estimate.

What helps before we come

  • A photo or two of the floor, sent by text.
  • The rooms you want done, and roughly when you’d like it finished.
  • Anything you know about the floor’s history: water, pets, an old refinish, carpet glue.
  • Pictures of floors you like. They make the color talk faster.
