Step 01Repair

First, the boards that can't be saved.

Termite-eaten and water-damaged boards come out one at a time. New ones are woven into the old rows, board by board, so the repair runs with the floor and doesn't read as a patch.

Board replacement · Termite damage · Subfloor repair

A floor opened to the joists, with the level laid across.
Step 02Sand

Then down to bare wood.

Sanding takes off the old finish, the gray and the scratches. It also shows what you really have. Here: white oak on the left, red oak on the right.

Oak · Douglas-fir · Parquet

Every knot filled, and the sander ready.
Step 03Color

Two woods, one color.

Red oak runs pink and white oak runs tan, so one stain lands differently on each. Tony balances them with custom stain, bleaching and color matching until they blend. Pick a tone:

Tone: Walnut

“There was an issue with my wood-some was white oak; some red oak. Tony was able to add a tint and make it all blend.”Georgene V. · Yelp review

Floors on the South Coast

What the houses here hand us.

Old fir under carpet, oak that changes halfway down the hall, termites, concrete slabs. The houses here are old, and their floors show it.

  • Old Douglas-fir

Older houses often have Douglas-fir floors. Fir is softer than oak and needs a lighter hand on the sander. We sand and refinish it in place.

  • Two oaks in one house

Additions and past repairs leave red oak next to white oak. We tint the color so the rooms read as one floor.

  • Termite damage

We cut out the eaten boards, repair what's under them and lace in new wood before sanding.

  • Scratches and worn finish

Deep scratches get touched up. A dull floor gets polished or a fresh top coat.

  • Concrete slabs

We test the slab for moisture, level it and prepare it so the new floor has a sound base. Or we polish the concrete itself.

Timing

Counted from the last coat, so the finish can cure. Tony comes out to look within one to three days of your call, and the estimate is free. No job is too small: he'll come out for a single scratch touch-up.

How a job runs

The same four steps, on your floor.

It starts with a free estimate: within one to three days, Tony looks at the floor and lays out the different ways you could go with it.

Carpet or old flooring comes out. Baseboards get taped.

  2. Repair and sand

Damaged boards and subfloor fixed, then everything goes down to bare wood.

  3. Color

Stain or tint to the tone you chose, blended across any mixed woods.

  4. Finish

Top coats, tape off, and the room is yours again.

“The hardest part is when there's a gap between a client's vision and the final result. That's why we focus heavily on clear communication and physical samples early on, to ensure we exceed their expectations every time.”Tony

“TONY, and his crew were great. Always on time and kept us updated on their every progress. We had moisture damaged to our dining area and hallway. He pointed out small details that other floor contractors failed to recognize. Luis and his crew replaced our dining and hallway area, sand and finished the rest of the house to match, the result was amazing. I highly Recommend LA CUMBRE FLOORS. They don't have the lowest prices, but the result is worth it. I was amazed by everything they were able to achieve, thanks to their experience restoring very old and deteriorated floors.”Héctor D. · Google review

Questions

Asked before most floors.

If yours isn't here, see all the questions or call and ask Tony.

Can my floor be refinished, or does it need replacing?

Most solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished, often more than once. Boards that are eaten, rotted or worn too thin get replaced one by one. Tony can tell you which you have when he sees it.

My floor has two different woods. Can they match?

Usually. Different woods take the same stain differently, so the color is tinted until they blend. One customer's floor was part white oak and part red oak; her review is above.

There's hardwood under my carpet. Is it worth uncovering?

Often, yes. We remove the carpet, see what shape the wood is in, repair it and refinish it.

Do you only do wood?

Wood is most of the work. La Cumbre also installs luxury vinyl plank, laminate and carpet, levels slabs, coats garage floors in epoxy and polishes concrete. Not tile or decks.

What does an estimate cost?

Nothing. Estimates are free, and Tony comes out to look within one to three days. Call or text (805) 698-9745, Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 10 pm.

What's the smallest job you'll take?

A scratch touch-up. No floor job is too small to call about.
